Groundskeeping and Golf Course Maintenance Safety

HSP-10.2

Groundskeeping, landscaping and golf course maintenance duties involve a number of hazards that workers may not be aware of. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 190 grounds maintenance workers are killed and more than 15,000 are injured each year, a rate much higher than other industries. During this course, learners will receive an overview of the physical, chemical, and wildlife hazards associated with landscaping and groundskeeping, how to identify hazards that may require additional training, and the importance of understanding and using hazard controls. This course is intended for all workers who perform lawn and grounds maintenance tasks, particularly in hospitality settings such as golf courses, hotels and resorts. This course is intended as an introduction to the topic and may need to be supplemented with additional course titles, depending on the severity of hazards present in the workplace. This course is presented in English and Spanish.
